Overview

Our team worked with Haptx, a tech company specializing in wearable haptics, on a tight deadline to create the pre-order process for their new G1 Gloves, made for tactile VR experiences. With only a month to complete the project, we aimed to create a smooth and user-friendly ordering experience for this unique product.

Challenge

The complex ordering process due to the unique technology of the G1 Gloves required clear explanations for each step. Educating users about the product's capabilities during the pre-order process was essential, while also balancing the information to avoid overwhelming them. Additionally, delivering a valuable user experience within a tight one-month timeframe was a significant challenge.

Solution

Throughout the project, I conducted a site audit, developed a clear information architecture, and created high-fidelity wireframes to visualize the page layouts. This resulted in a step-by-step pre-order flow that effectively balanced storytelling with product information. The successful project earned recognition and led to ongoing collaboration between our team and HaptX.

Site Audit

As part of my initial steps, I thoroughly examined their current content structure and how they presented their brand. This comprehensive site audit offered valuable perspectives and insights, inspiring ideas for potential improvements. With a deep understanding of their brand identity, tone, and content approach, I then focused on revitalizing the pre-order microsite for the G1 gloves.

Information Architecture

During the development of the pre-order page, my primary focus revolved around crafting a robust information architecture. As previously mentioned, the product's complexity and significant price tag demanded extreme clarity regarding what the user would receive and the reasons behind their purchase. It was crucial to ensure that every aspect of the product's value proposition was clearly communicated to the users.

Page Structure

Page Structure

To achieve a user-friendly experience and effectively educate potential customers without overwhelming them, I designed the pre-order flow as a step-by-step process. The layout featured a spacious open window on the left, dedicated to storytelling and presenting comprehensive product information. On the right, a smaller interactive panel allowed users to easily select their ordering preferences. This intentional content structure ensured an intuitive journey for users, providing ample space for education while maintaining a sense of simplicity and clarity throughout the ordering process.

Pre-Order Wireframing

Pre-Order Wireframing

Pre-Order Wireframing

To ensure that the page information was thoughtfully organized and the user flow remained coherent at each step of the process, I began iterating on multiple rounds of wireframes. The wireframes were developed at a high-fidelity level to offer the client a clearer representation of how the pages would look, particularly because the product's complexity warranted an accurate visualization. Through this detailed wireframing process, I aimed to achieve a design that effectively communicated the product's intricacies while maintaining a user-friendly interface.
